What are the most overated & underated Albums

What do you think are the most overrated and underated albums in the rock/metal catagory??

I'd be keen to here people's thoughts on this, seeing Trixxi's comments on Hardline and talking with the boys from Teargas at soundcheck spurred me on to launch this post.

For me here are some thoughts, something to start with;

Overrated;
Dogs D'Amour - Anything by this band (can't understand why people like em at all)
Love /Hate - Blackout & Wasted (again, i don't get it)
Giant - both first two albums ( I like them , but waaaaay overated)
Hardline - Double Eclipse (again i like it, but way overrated)
Shark Island - Law Of The Order

Underated;
Cold Sweat - Break Out (very simular to Lynch Mob - Wicked Sensation ,from the ex keel gtrst)
Shake The Faith - America The Violent (Tommy Thayers Trash/Glam/Punk band from '93)
Treat - Organised Crime (any fan of melodic rock should own this album)
TNT - Tell No Tales (again a must for melodic rock fans)
Tigertailz - Young & Crazy (Iknow everyone loves the Bezerk CD, but this is sleazier and just great)

Jules.

One glam/sleaze album that never get's too much  recognition in my opinion is "The Love Drag Years" by Star*Star.

I think this album  is one of the best in the genre, yet not many people give it much accolation.

It's sleazy, it's glam and it heavy. I love it.

cheers

Lindsay

OVERRATED -  anything by "Impelliteri"... This guy to me is a d-grade Malmsteen rip-off with crappy, boring songs and possibly the most disgusting singer in rock history (next to Jimmy Barnes), Graham Bonnett....

UNDERRATED - "Motley Crue '94" and "Generation Swine".... Everyone slams these albums but I think they're really good for what they are... different, yes.... not Motley? true... but great, interesting albums nonetheless in my opinion...

Here is some albums that I don't think get the respect they deserve-

Shadow King - S/T    Probably would have sold better & be remembered more if it was just released as a Lou Gramm solo album as was originally planned, before Vivian Campbell got involved. (even though he didn't contribute to the songwriting except for the last track Russia, and that is the only weak song!)

Hericane Alice - Tear the House Down   I can't believe this album bombed! Compared to alot of the stuff released at the same time this album destroys! Great vocals, awesome guitars and super rockin' songs that are gutsy yet catchy. I remember buying this and the 1st Danger Danger on the same day when they were released, and was blown away by the Alice, while thinking Danger Danger was a little weak sounding thanks to the keyboards. (Thankfully on they're follow up album Screw It!, the fixed this problem!)

KIX - Oh man, where do I start... they're in my top 3 bands of all time! 6 outta the 7 albums (all except Blow My Fuse)  they did could be listed here!I just think It is a shame that they're biggest selling album is in my opinion one of they're weakest... but it really only sold on the back of the first serious song they ever wrote - a very ordinary ballad! KIX don't do serious, they do fun rock n' roll.

Things - S/T  It is unfortunate that this band & album never really had a proper chance. You may remember them as Swingin' Thing, a big band on the Sunset Strip scene in the late 80's / early 90's. Rockin' stuff with a glam / punk look,  sound & attitude! I'm just thankfull to Tommy & Eric for finally releasing it!

Great White  S/T   Often overlooked album of pure early 80's METAL in the style of Priest / Accept / Warrior / Keel / Wasp etc. Definately thy're most aggressive and heavy stuff. They kinda drifted onwards to more commercial stuff and later fooled around with the Blues a bit and some good o'l rock n' roll. I love this band and ALL they're albums, and while I'm not a huge fan of ballads, I can appreciate a good one and for my money, no one comes close to doing ballads with more feeling than these guys. I don't think any singer I've ever heard can match the genuine emotion for what he's singing about than Jack. (you all will probably think I'm crazy.... everyone who's only heard the Once Bitten Twice Shy type stuff anyway!)

That's just off the top of my head. I'll post later on some overrated stuff. Cool topic Mephisto!!! ( Don't get me started on Shake The Faith!)

UNDERRATED -

GAMMARAY - POWERPLANT - this album is very underrated. Even though most power metal fans think it's unreal, it really should be considered the best album of all time.

OVERRATED -

MEGADETH - ANY ALBUM - Dave mustain is a hack!! He is a red-haired loser who could'nt live up to Metallica's standards. And his band is mediocre. They are very overrated.

Jimmy Bares Discusting ? I for one love Jimmy Barnes. He may scream alot but so do some of those metal bands out there.  Ive seen him 4 times this year. Although I respect your opinion Al, I won't agree with it he he he.

As for mustaine being ugly, and crap, well what does his looks have to do with anything? The guy is awesome and Megadeth rock!

Thats one hell of a ritual. I know from experience.

UNDERRATED - FIGHT - War of words- Man this is an unreal album!! Halford at his best. Into the pit, and Nailed to the gun are pure metal gems!!!

A agree Mr Van Hell a very good post ... ive been super busy with christmas ebay shoppers!!

Underrated :

Def Leppard : Euphoria - This album has been overlooked by many fans due to the "slang" release. Its if anything as rocking as hysteria with alot of the Pyromania feel to it especially the track "promises"

Sven Gali : Under The Inlfuence - Came out after the greatest rock . metal years 88 / 89 and basically missed the rush. VEry skid row orientated highly recommend this, but thier second release titled " in wire" was very grunge feeling, and i personally dislike that one.

Warrant : Dog Eat Dog - I cant for the life of me work out why this bombed! It blew away Cherry Pie, songs like Bonfire and All My Bridges are burning totally rock. Possibly just like Sven Gali, missed the rush

McQueen Street : Self Titled : Man what a cd!! Songs like My Religion, Stick it , and the ballad Heaven this is Very Dokken feeling with an edgier vocal. I would expect them to be on radio but i would have thought they may have caused a few more ripples than they actually did.

Saints & Sinners - ST - like McQueen street, almost unknown by metal heads, very cool style of suond, with songs like We Belong and slipping into Darkness. Also a song written by Jon Bon Jovi called Kiss The Bastards

Overrated

The Darkness : I cant stand this band dont know what thier cd is called and dont care!

Tuff : All Cds : Tuff where an O.K. band, a few cool tracks, but they had one official release and 2 demos, they have to my knowledge released 3 best of cds, 3 home videos and i noticed not long ago in metal sludge a banner : the 80's metal gods .. Motley Crue, Ratt & Tuff ??????? Motley and Ratt yes! Tuff???? Stevie i know you own metal sludge but get over yourself dude you aint that good.

Well thats my 2 cents worth!

Just to make things perfectly clear The Darkness and Megadeth are great bands.

As far as underated albums go I'd say VAIN's No Respect is an album that should've been massive when it was reelased back in 89. They had the image the voice and the songs but alas its only considered classic by thsoe in the know!

Also all Mike Tramps solo stuff is great but its not getting the attention it deserves on a world-wide scale.

Overated...all METALLICA albums...those guys should get a singer!! And also all Van Hagar albums... Sammy sucks the big one....sorry VAN HELL but its true!!

Party Liason, you have stooped very low by saying Metallica should get a singer!! James is a god!! He has an unreal voice, and all of Metallica stuff is severly UNDERRATED.

And megadeth are a poor man's metallica, at best!!

Why thankyou Party Liason

I gotta say I'll take Megadeth over Metallica. I like their albums better, their sound better, Mustaine's voice better... and everyone knows how much I love arena shows but Megadeth's Palace show KILLED Metallica's arena show I saw.
